Save Our MARTA Rally

This morning when I got of the train at Five Points station I ended up in the middle of a rally in support for the mass transit system in Atlanta. There are looming budget cuts that could mean a reduction in services by about 30% I delayed my trip to the motor vehicle department to take a few photos. It was a decent crowd and if I hadn't been on my way to get my car registered and then head back to work I would have stuck around longer. Here's a few photos from the rally.

Just playing with reflection on this last one, didn't work like I wanted.

Robin eggs in the gate

We found this nest of Robin eggs in one of the gates at Mt. Longleaf NWR this weekend.

Mt. Longleaf Pt. 2

This weekend I was able to go over to Alabama and assist on a prescribed burn at one of the new refuges in the southeastern United States. Mt. Longleaf NWR was established on a portion of the former US Army base Fort McClellan near Anniston, AL. The refuge was created in 2003 to improve manage and improve the health of the Longleaf pinelands in this area. Firefighters from eight refuges around the southeast assisted in the burn and we managed to burn 2500 acres in two days. The impact area signs are in areas that may still have some live rounds in the interior, we only heard what we believe to be old blank riffle shells going off. Mt. Longleaf is a beautiful refuge and I am sure I will be back to visit this area to see the results of this burn.

The following images are just a few more of the photos I took this weekend.

Huntsville, TX

Enjoyed some great meals at Farmhouse Cafe, a must if you are in the area.

I am in Huntsville, Texas this week for a project for work, great folks and a nice atmosphere. I regret not taking a picture of all the Sam Houston statues, but I will tell you I counted at least four in the neighborhood. The cherry blossoms are going hog wild out here so, a jog through the neighborhoods brings a great aroma.

More snow in ATL

Atlanta Aiport

Oakland Cemetery from the MARTA

A second relatively large snow storm has hit Atlanta this winter, I am just happy to have made it into Atlanta before it really began to impact the airport. Here I spent the week in Oklahoma and didn't really see much of the white stuff, and I come back to a white Atlanta. I also learned that a walk from the local MARTA station to the neighborhood where I live is manageable with my carry on luggage, which is a nice benefit of living in a big city.

A run to the lighthouse

I took my camera along this morning for my run down to the local lighthouse. I wanted to capture the sunrise. It was a nice run and a beautiful sunrise, enjoy.
