The Nature Conservancy Magazine asked for my contribution a couple months ago to a story they were doing on the Prescribed Fire Training Center (Tallahassee, FL). The article has now been completed and I would like to share it with you. I will be receiving some copies of the magazine to share with family and a few friends but the online version is pretty nice as well.
So check it out if you like.

I thought I better share some of the southern end of the area where I grew up in Eastern Oregon. I will post a few photos here, but make sure you check out the gallery for the rest.

Lot's of things to see here, and with us leaving soon we better check them out now. We took a tour of Diamond and Crane along the way we stopped at the Round Barn, and stopped at Bill Thew's shop.

Friday night we got to witness some impressive fire activity. We were camped above this rim on a rock scab flat when the fire down below decided to make a run up slope after the winds died down. Here are a few photos;

This young coyote pup got more than he bargained for when he strolled through the refuge visitors' center this evening. A doe decided that the coyote was too close to her fawn so she chased it across the lawn and into one of the flower gardens, here are the photos.

The Narrows is an area just west of the refuge headquarters. It gets it's name because it's a narrow area between the two big lakes here in Harney county. It separates Harney and Malheur lake. The family along with some of the crew met there for dinner last night, here are some photos.
More can be found at the photo gallery.
